How Many People Will Read My Article?

An excellent question, but what is the answer?

That got me thinking. I bet other writers have the same question, and it is a complicated one to answer, but I will give it a go.

It depends on the following criteria.

How many followers do you have

Let us start with the basics. If you have 100 followers, there is a good chance they may see your article by either clicking on your profile and looking to see what you have published.

They may also see it on the Medium dashboard, which will give people two options, "following" or "recommended for you. "as shown below.

Publications

Are you going to submit your article to a publication? If so, you need to think about which one will serve your article better. Remember always to submit a draft article. Otherwise, your written piece could get lost with the sheer volume of articles the publication receives.

Some publications have featured articles, and in essence, it means they pin your articles to the top of their page, giving them a much better chance of being viewed.

It does not always matter the size of the publication. For example, today, I read an article from a man who submitted an article to a publication with 1.8 million followers.

Subscribers

If you have subscribers who follow you, you will have the option to email them so they know you have a new article for them to read. It is an excellent way of getting your hard work in front of people who care.
