High Pitch Music System Destroying the Night

Have you experienced this?

I often wonder if high decibel raucous could be allowed in a civilized society.

You are in a fun mood. You party. You play loud music throughout the night. You think all others must partake in the fun, no matter what hour of the day or night it is or what mood they are in, regardless of whether you invited them or not. You believe all must have a taste of your fun.

Whatever reason you are buoyed about, that’s your personal and private thing, dear!

You have a wedding or birthday reception bash tonight. That’s your private thing with your friends and family. Why disturb neighbors and people who live near or three blocks far with music blaring out and wrecking their nerves? They are not partying.

There may be kids studying into the night or old and ailing people resting. A baby has just been put to sleep but woken up wailing by the disturbance. Your music system has blown their nerve off.

Your fun may be life-wrecking for them. Especially at night. One needs a good night’s sleep after a day’s toil. Please respect that.

I wonder if this is a sign of a half-formed society. This disrespects others’ right to rest and comfort. I agree you have a right to merriment. But others’ right to a calm and quiet life is not less important than your right to revel.

It pains when you see them play DJ music with high bass at a deafening height. It is so unacceptable when sleeping hours are spoiled. And long after the music has died, you find it difficult to fall asleep.

It is all the more alarming when no civil authority intervenes. Yes, regulatory norms are in place on paper. You got to seek permission to hold a grand private function that may potentially hazard a quiet residential neighborhood. But, no one cares.

“Why care? It’s just a matter of one night or a few hours? You may also host a social function someday and people may object to the noise that you create”, comes the argument sometimes. Well, sure, people should object to such nuisance if I cause. And I must be sensible to understand that my rights and liberty should not encroach on others.

What is required is a little sensitivity and a sense of decorum. Society at large exists as an unwritten agreement of mutual respect and consideration. Recklessness and rampant disregard for civility will only cause social unrest and anarchy. Let’s build on trust and empathy to create a more sensible environment.
