3 things that always happen when I travel

I am no stranger to travelling. Been doing it since I was in diapers. In fact, I took my first steps in Hong Kong.

So maybe because of those first steps, I somehow made a deal with the universe for all the 3 things listed to always happen. No matter what.

Super fun times!

No matter what, without fail, I will get cuts or bruises. My knees especially have endured the most. I usually get these when I’m out on excursions or doing activities.

The times I remember:

I don’t mind so much the ones I got from excursions and activities but the random ones would just puzzle me to no end.

Come to think of it, because most of the randoms are around my knee, maybe it’s because of my height?

Nah, can’t be.

Now this one, I really can’t help. It’s no secret among those that know me that I look younger than I am. So whenever I go through immigration, I get stopped and questioned longer than my family or friends. No big deal.

It’s when I travel alone.

Why are you travelling alone? Where’s your family? Do you need assistance? Where are you going? Where are you staying? How long are you staying? Do you have the address and contact information of where you will be staying? Who’s picking you up?

You get the idea.

Now, I can understand that they’re concerned because I must be a child travelling on their own.

Their faces after they see my date of birth is hilarious. I should definitely have like a spy cam on me during these moments.

But then again, that’s illegal.

Plus, I like my freedom.

And not being banned from entering any country is pretty nice.

I really try to not use the overhead compartment. On smaller planes, I have no problem. The larger planes like the 747. Some people might not notice this (I’m looking at you, tall people) but on the aisle seats, there’s like a little booster step there right under the seat.

Ok, I don’t know for sure if that’s its function but I use it to help me step up to put my bag up there. When there is no booster step, I just step on the seat.

If the plane is quite full of people, I ask for help. Be it to a fellow passenger or a steward/stewardess, they help me. But it’s usually not full enough so I do it myself.

Apparently, you aren’t allowed to step on the seats. Not even the tiny booster thing. So I get told off quite a bit if one of the stewards/stewardesses catches me.

This one ridiculous time it happened was just ridiculous. I don’t remember what flight or where I was coming or going. I just remember I was up on the seat with my bag halfway up in the air. One of the stewardesses came up to me and asked what I was doing.

I’m pretty sure it was quite obvious what I was doing.

I’m putting my bag up in the overhead compartment.

“You can’t stand on the seats,” she said.

Ok.

She just looked at me and she clearly wanted to say something. So I just stood there with my bag in my hands waiting for her to do something. To say something.

She didn’t.

Can you help me?

She hesitantly helped me push my bag in like it was so heavy.

It was a trolley bag with my hoodie in it.

That whole exchange was just ridiculous. In hindsight, I should’ve just shoved my bag in by myself and sit down.

I just stopped using the overhead compartment after that.

So yeap. Fun times were had. FUN TIMES.
