The tale of three villages

There were three villages on three hills. These villages had different policies abut how they distributed grains between the people.

The first village was a capitalist village. Every person had to grow and harvest his grains himself. The people in the village firmly believed that a person owns what he creates. Some people were good at farming and some were worse. But each got their share of grains according to their labor merit. Some people inherited huge grain farms from their parents. Some people lost their grain farms due to drought or insects. In order to survive these unlucky people had to sell their bodies into slavery for the grain-rich. That was the only way they could get food to survive. Eventually the village split into two castes: the grainless and the grainfull, the slaves and the masters.

The second was a socialist village. No person could keep his grain. Each harvest was gathered into giant silos and then the grain was distributed equally among the villagers. However this village had constant food shortage and widespread corruption. Without a good personal incentive to grow more grain each villager tried to do as little work as possible. Stealing of the grain was rampant. Eventually the society split into two types of people: the grain distributors and the grain suppliers. The people who did the grain distribution could steal the most and then sell the stolen grains to the other people who received so little of what was left.

The third village was the weirdest village of all those. It was a village where social capitalists lived. Villagers there understood that people want incentives to perform but also need a safety-net when they have a bad year. This village allowed people to own what they grow, but everyone had to dedicate small amount from their harvest to the village grain silo. This silo was used to help unfortunate people to get started again if they were unlucky and lost all their grain. Also the silo helped the villagers if a big drought fell upon the village and everyone was affected. There were some people who tried to cheat and get free grains from the silo without working at all. However there were no castes in this village and everyone got a fair chance to live, work and prosper.
