How many Types Of Preposition?

In the first chapter of Prepositions- Introduction to prepositions, we realized briefly about the Kinds of Prepositions. In this chapter, we will dive deeper into the topic.

Types of Prepositions:

As we have learned, Prepositions are words that join nouns/pronouns/phrases. It’s a bit complex to explain the usage as it has now not many rules. But the wonders of sound judgment will store this one. We will get into the complete small print of this section in our subsequent chapter; however, let’s get added to the exclusive kinds in this chapter:

Simple Prepositions:

Usually containing solely two syllables, simple prepositions are phrases like for, by, at, out, in, of, off, through, till, up, too, with.

The whale dived into the water, creating a big splash.

I am from New Jersey.
Martha is here till her brother receives it into college.
The moon does now not shine using its personal light.
My niece is suffering from the flu.
I am working hard at Geography.

2. Compound Prepositions:

Compound prepositions are those prepositions that are made by using prefixing the preposition to a noun, an adjective, or an adverb. Say, for example, amongst, amidst, above, around, along, across, about, below, beneath, beside, between, beyond, outside, within, without.

Compound preposition: Prefix + noun/adjective/adverb

The cat is leaping around the seat.

There’s a metro station beneath this ground.

Once upon a time, there was a courageous princess.

3. Double Preposition:

Double Prepositions are formed by using simple- two prepositions.

My son emerged from the back of the curtains to scare me.
According to the meteorology department, it is going to rain tonight.
It is up to nature to refill our renewable resources.
Zeal is something that comes from within a person.

4. Participle Preposition:

Verbs that act as a preposition. Usually, quit in -ing and -ed.

Particle preposition are verbs in disguise

Barring a few minor mistakes, the play went particularly well.
Everyone, please hold quiet during the class.
Our trainer now and then receives annoyed with us.
Considering my grandfather’s age, we hold our travels less exhausting.

5. Phrase prepositions:

A Phrase preposition includes a preposition, an object, and the object’s modifier.

Phrase prepositions are — preposition + object + modifier

My little brother gathered my trophy on behalf of my sister.

The show obtained canceled due to the fact of the surprising rain.
In the direction of time, the wounds on my cat’s paws healed.
To avoid losses, he withdrew all money to mitigate the risk
By the power vested upon the prince, he introduced a peace treaty.

We are traveling abroad in the summertime.
Why don’t you come home on Sunday evening?
The home-coming is on the 7th of September.

2. Prepositions of Place:

5. Prepositions of Instruments, units, or Machines:

These prepositions join instruments, machines, or gadgets in the sentence.

She came to the wedding ceremony birthday celebration via train.
I made a hole in the wall with the assist of a drill for the waste-pipe.
My brother opened the lock with a hairpin.
